Bikestation DC is Open! 0

Nov3

The beautifully designed Bikestation, a facility that provides secure bike parking, changing rooms, lockers, bike rental, bike repair and retail sales has opened in Washington DC.

It will be staffed 66 hours per week and available to members 24/7. The Bikestation location at Union Station allows commuters to take public transportation to the station, pick up their bicycles and go to work, shopping or entertainment. [via Bikestation]

NYC sure could use an equally stunning facility like this!

Bike Love, Obama and the Inauguration 0

Jan21

We couldn’t be in DC but the fanfare was felt around the world as President Obama (we get to call him that now!) delivered his inaugural address.

Here is a beautiful shot by Jesse Chan-Norris of the DC bike valet. Can we say success!? Thanks to all the valet volunteers out there. You are appreciated. Check out WABA’s Flickr stream for more action.

Those of use who stayed in NYC were lucky enough to have our own bike parade courtesy of Times UP. We’ll get those photos up as soon as we spot them.

We would have killed to see someone rocking this art piece, but it was just on display at Manifest the Hope as far as we know.

With all this new found hope, we can only hope to see Obama rockin his bike and some bike friendly policies more often – to you Mr. President.

Bike Friendly Inauguration! 0

Jan18

We are feeling a little bummed about staying in Brooklyn for the big discobama…I mean inauguration. CNN is calling it “The Moment” and wants you to send pictures of Obama raising his hand to themoment@cnn.com WTF!? Bombard those fools with dirty photos would you?

Anyways, there is good news for the cyclists out there! The Washington Area Bicyclist Association will perform a valet service with fully uniformed valets.

As an added bonus, commemorative spoke cards and valet claim check tickets will be available free of charge to everyone who uses the bike valet. While supplies last. [via WABA]

That alone makes us regret not biking into town.

The Washcycle suggest going early or biking around as the volunteers are preparing to check 1000 bikes for 1.5 to 3 million people and they “might” be overrun. Click the map below to check out the valet sites and bike paths. [via Washcycle]
